MicroPath Laboratories & The College of American Pathologists Join Forces to Advocate Excellence
Wednesday July 16, 2008
MicroPath Laboratories has been selected by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) as one of four labs in the United States to produce histology slides for The Performance Improvement Program for Surgical Pathology, a performance enhancing, educational program offered to pathologists nationwide.
“This is welcomed recognition of the quality work our lab consistently produces,” said Craig Lariscy, MD, president and laboratory director for MicroPath Laboratories.
MicroPath Laboratories will provide the program with histology slides representing a variety of neoplastic and non-neoplastic lesions, including inflammatory and infectious diseases, and encompassing essentially all organ sites. These slides will be available for diagnosis to over 6,000 pathologists throughout the United States. The diagnosis will then be critiqued and the pathologist will receive a report tabulated for peer group response.
The College of American Pathologists is the leading organization of board-certified pathologists and serves patients, pathologists, and the public by fostering and advocating excellence in the practice of pathology and laboratory medicine. The Performance Improvement Program for Surgical Pathology, offered through CAP, is designed by pathologists for pathologists to provide a practical approach for continuing education in surgical pathology and gives pathologists a method of assessing their diagnostic skills and comparing their performances with that of their peers.
MicroPath Laboratories is an independent consultative and diagnostic anatomic laboratory staffed by board certified pathologists with sub-specialty fellowships in the areas of breast pathology, cytopathology, dermatopathology, gastrointestinal pathology, genitourinary pathology, gynecologic pathology, hematopathology and molecular pathology.
